Hasbro and the Transformers Collaborative will reissue the Top Gun Maverick mashup robot in honor of Top Gun Day. Top Gun is one of the most celebrated action drama films to come out of the 80s, amassing praise for its action sequences, effects, aerial stunts, and acting performances. In addition to numerous accolades and awards, the film's impact integrated quickly into popular culture, fueling the sale of bomber jackets and aviator sunglasses while simultaneously saturating the market with replica children's toys and film collectibles. In 2020, nearly thirty-five years after the film's debut, the Transformers Collaborative released the Top Gun Maverick mashup robot to celebrate the original film.
In a recent announcement, Hasbro and the Transformers Collaborative reveal they will reissue the Top Gun Maverick mashup robot in honor of Top Gun Day. In 25 steps, the Northrop Grumman F-14 Tomcat jet transforms into the 7-inch tall Maverick robot. The robot features folding jet wings and includes accessories in the form of a miniature motorcycle and four missiles. And while most of the new mashup pays homage to the original film, the helmet design for the Maverick robot is derived from the one Tom Cruise wears in the newly released Top Gun: Maverick.
