Glen Powell, one of the stars of Top Gun: Maverick,has set the record straight about rumors that he may be portraying the Marvel Cinematic Universe's version of Cyclops. In a recent interview, Powell denied that he will be portraying the frequent leader of the X-Men on screen, or at the very least, he has not currently been cast in the role.

Not only has the film flown past Avengers: Infinity War's box office tally, its stars have been the talk of the town recently. The Top Gun: Maverick performances have been praised since the film's release, and the future of its young cast has been the source of much speculation, but some of it isn't true according to Powell's Variety interview.

Powell, who plays Lieutenant Jake «Hangman» Seresin in Top Gun: Maverick, has been the source of some such speculation. In particular, some fans have focused on the leader of the X-Men, Cyclops. Rumors have abounded that Powell had already been cast in the X-Men role, but Powell plainly denies this in the recent interview. When asked if there was any truth to the rumors, Powell says plainly, «Before Comic-Con, everybody was like, “Dude, are you Cyclops?” No, I’m not. Nobody has called me. I don’t even have one contact info for Marvel, so I have no idea what people are talking about.» After this comment, the interviewer suggests that his character and Miles Teller's character, Lieutenant Bradley «Rooster» Bradshaw, should get a spin-off if Powell is not cast as the future Cyclops. In response, Powell simply says, «I think that's more likely.»
