Crimson Desert is the latest project developed by Pearl Abyss, the developers behind the long-standing MMORPG Black Desert Online. Today at Gamescom 2024, attendees got to try Crimson Desert in a hands-on demo, revealing three bosses that players will encounter.
Originally, Crimson Desert was planned as a prequel to Black Desert Online but has since evolved into its own game while sharing thematic similarities to the popular MMORPG. It was also showcased at Gamescom 2023, with an unspecified release date.
Crimson Desert was first announced in 2019 and has since been in development. There is very minimal information about It, but a trailer released in 2023 showcases more of the action-adventure side of the game.
The hands-on demo at Gamescom 2024 revealed four new bosses that attendees would get to experience exclusively. Pearl Abyss revealed the boss fights on YouTube that players would get to play in the demo. Players got to see the following boss fights at Gamescom:
Crimson Desert features stunning graphics developed using Pearl Abyss's proprietary engine, BlackSpace Engine. This engine is different from the one used for Black Desert Online, which also has its engine made explicitly for the MMORPG.
Over the years, Crimson Desert has received a multitude of trailers, including its first official reveal trailer, which was showcased in 2019. The game also received a five-minute gameplay trailer at The Game Awards in 2020, as well as two dev diaries, which were released in 2020.
The next piece of content the audience saw was the game trailer at Gamescom Opening Night Live 2023, which showcased just over three minutes of gameplay. Since then, there has been relatively minimal news about the game's development, aside from the four boss fights that attendees and viewers on YouTube have now been introduced to.
