Hungary-based Kite Games is no stranger to real-time-strategy, having made Sudden Strike 4 and the SWINE HD Remaster. Now the studio is taking its talent for tactical squad-based combat out of the last century and into the middle ages.
The Valiant will put players in control of Theoderich von Akenburg, a knightly hero who thought his questing days were long over. But when the evil Ulrich becomes obsessed with reforging a forbidden relic, Theoderich comes out of retirement to stop Ulrich’s unholy crusade.

Set in 13th-century Europe and the Middle East, Theoderich must assemble an army to take on Ulrich’s forces. You’ll see just a few of the friends Theoderich meets during his quest, including a monk, an extremely large man wielding a shield and an ax, as well as a deadly female mercenary who seems very concerned with ensuring her employer remains breathing.
According to publisher THQ Nordic, the story-driven campaign will span 15 missions, each offering unique challenges that will require careful player decisions. Do you bring a squad built for intense melee combat, or a squad for fast and nimble redeployment? Who you select will depend on how you build out each hero, which all feature unique skill trees, active and passive abilities, and multiple buildcrafting options courtesy of weapons and equipment players find on their quest.
Combat is “fast-paced” and “melee centric,” with players controlling units in the field rather than building bases at home. Leveling up and outfitting is done between missions, where players will also have the opportunity to read up on Theoderich’s journey courtesy of narrated journals and cinematics.
