We’ve had a lot of variety this week at TheGamer. Big interviews with voice actress Tara Strong and Twitch streamer Amouranth provided us with an insight into two very different sides of the industry. And on top of that, the news gave us no shortage of big industry moves to react to.
And that’s where we start our feature round up this week, with the second-biggest acquisition of the year - and how it’s just as bad as the first one.

Last month, editor-in-chief Stacey Henley wrote about how Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard is bad for the industry, bringing it closer to a monopoly. Now, Stacey is arguing the same point about Sony buying Bungie. While it’s not on the scale of Activision Blizzard, this deal indicates that Sony is ready to start collecting studios of its own, potentially starting an arms race between it and Microsoft. If it’s a race that could end in all the major studios being owned by one of two conglomerates, it’s hard to imagine a situation in which that’s healthy for any industry. Creativity in gaming could be under attack, and it’s not something we should look forward to.
Speaking of Bungie - we got our first look at the Halo TV show this week. However, rather than basking in the hype, fans are already unhappy with what they’ve seen. Why, you ask? Because Cortana isn’t blue enough. Lead features editor Jade King argues that the trailer actually shows a lot of promise, and there’s nothing wrong with a new look for Cortana. What we should really be worried about is whether or not she looks like she fits into the world of the show - and whether they can pull off the same quality of writing as the games.
