While The Simpsons is not the first show to feature The Weeknd making fun of himself via a self-aware cameo, the season 33 guest star did have a wild secret twist in store for viewers. The Simpsons has never been shy about spoofing celebrities, regardless of how famous they might be. It helps considerably if the celebrity guest star in question is in on the joke. For example, The Simpsons season 33 already mocked guest star Beck Bennett’s SNL career and now the long-running anarchic animated comedy has taken aim at another big-name guest—and thankfully, he was a good sport about the appearance. As a result, The Simpsons pulled out an undeniably original twist for The Weeknd’s comedic cameo on the show.

In “Bart the Cool Kid” (season 33, episode 15), R&B superstar The Weeknd proved once again (after self-effacing cameos in both Uncut Gems and American Dad) that he has a sense of humor regarding his fame and public persona. The singer played the role of Orion Hughes, a TikTok rich kid adored by Bart’s generation. However, the Simpsons episode put a surreal genre twist on this Weeknd cameo when a post-credits twist revealed that Orion was also his own father. Rather than being a normal human being, Orion was revealed to be a clone of his narcissistic superstar dad—a character also played by The Weeknd, in a twist that only viewers who were listening very carefully will have been able to see coming.
