fans may have another new project to look forward to and/or dread. In an interview with Jeux Video translated by Video Game Chronicle, Christophe Gans, the director of the 2006 adaption of the classic horror franchise, revealed that he has a script in hand for a new film based on the games. Gans wrote the script during the lockdown caused by the global pandemic.
He spoke about writing a film in the modern day. However, his wording is a little tricky since it’s not completely clear if it would actually be released next year or just that he would like for it to come out next year.
“ is a bit like, the fourth dimension, a place where anything and everything can happen. I worked on a new which is a of the year 2023 – because the film would be released next year – and not a as I imagined it in 2006. It is a for today’s audiences while being ultra respectful of the saga.”
Gans then went on about how was ahead of its time.
“I’m trying to take into account what I’ve seen recently, what’s most original and amazing in horror films, and see if has the seeds, or even the expression of that,” said Gans. “ has always been an unusual game and ahead of its time.”
While there are no concrete details on the film outside of this script or if it is even happening, it could possibly coincide with or at least be a part of Konami’s alleged revival of the series.
While neither of the prior films could be considered classics (and the second of which Gans wasn’t involved with), the visuals were a standout and sometimes felt lifted directly from the mainline games.
