Despite being commercially available for just a few days, players have managed to discover a cacophony of things within Elden Ring. Given the sheer scope of the open-world and the large variety of enemies for players to fight against, Elden Ring possesses a litany of content for players to encounter. Although, it may come as a shock for some players that one of the most docile creatures in Elden Ring has an unexpected defensive maneuver.
One feature of Elden Ring that differs from other FromSoftware titles is the plethora of nonaggressive creatures found within the open-world. These creatures range from birds to livestock, which bares a striking contrast to some of the more inhospitable enemies in Elden Ring, such as the Grave Warden Duelist, to name one example. However, the sheep in Elden Ring will sometimes avoid attacks made by the player using a rather similar technique.

Over on Reddit, a user named nathanial13 posted a brief clip where the player made an attempt to kill a sheep, only for the sheep to roll out of the way via combat dodge. Now, the combat dodge has been a central mechanic of FromSoftware games since the advent of Demon's Souls and while most enemy combatants possess similar evasive maneuvers, it's safe to assume that nobody expected sheep to know how to combat dodge.
It's unclear why Hidetaka Miyazaki, the director of Elden Ring, decided to give a friendly in-game animal the ability to roll out of the way of enemy attacks. Perhaps it's meant to discourage players from killing nonaggressive creatures in-game, or maybe it was meant to provide a subtle way of communicating the capabilities of various fauna within Elden Ring.
