Electronic Arts has officially revealed the name of the new Battlefield studio being led by Halo co-creator Marcus Lehto.
The Seattle-based studio was established last October and has been staffing up for its debut project, which will be “a narrative campaign in the Battlefield universe”.
“It is a great honor to have the opportunity to collaborate with DICE and Ripple Effect and lead the charge on expanding the narrative, storytelling and character development opportunities in the Battlefield series,” said game director and Ridgeline studio head Lehto.
In December, EA announced its intention to create a “connected Battlefield universe” alongside widespread changes to the franchise’s development structure.
As part of these plans, DICE’s former general manager Oscar Gabrielson left EA altogether, while Respawn and Infinity Ward co-founder Vince Zampella took on a new role as the overseer of the entire Battlefield franchise.
“We’re continuing to invest in the future of the franchise by bringing in new talent and perspectives,” Zampella said in today’s announcement. “With Marcus and his team at Ridgeline Games joining the world-class global team we have already in place, Battlefield is in the strongest position to succeed.”
Battlefield 2042 Season 2 launched in late August. Titled Master of Arms, it introduced a new map designed for infantry-focused gameplay, a new Specialist, plus fresh weapons and vehicles, among other features.
In response to the game’s “polarising” Specialists, developer DICE recently announced plans to introduce a class system for Battlefield 2042 in its Season 3 update.
