Bloober Team has announced that its horror game The Medium will be adapted into a TV show.
The show, which will be a co-production between Platige Image and Bloober Team will be led by filmmaker Tomasz Bagiński and Bloober Team president Piotr Babieno.
According to Babieno, the success of other video game adaptations such as Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and Arcane have inspired the project.
“The latest hits of streaming platforms based on games such as Cyberpunk: Edgerunners or Arcane have shown that this is the perfect time for such productions,” he said.
“Participation in the creative supervision of the project from such an important figure in Polish cinematography as Tomasz Bagiński proves that we want to create something truly amazing.
“The whole team working on the concept of the series felt they were working on something special, we hope that this enthusiasm will be visible in the quality of the series.”
The Medium sees players assume the role of Marianne, a medium living across the real and spirit worlds. According to Bloober, it features “never-seen-before and officially patented gameplay that plays out across two worlds displayed at the same time.
VGC’s review called the game a short but intriguing tale, saying: “The Medium won’t give you any sleepless nights, but treat it as a paranormal thriller rather than an all-out horror game and you’ll find an interesting story (albeit a disturbing one at times) that will encourage you to push through its slightly repetitive split-screen gimmick to find out how it all ends.”
Bloober has said The Medium is partly inspired by Konami’s Silent Hill series, which is why it signed the horror franchise’s composer Akira Yamaoka to contribute music to the game alongside Arkadiusz Reikowski
