Warning: Spoilers for Ms. Marvel episode 1
Ms. Marvel episode 1 brought back one of Thor’s best jokes from Avengers: Infinity War in an unexpected way. Thor and the Avengers aren’t in Ms. Marvel, but Earth’s Mightiest Heroes are certainly casting a long shadow on Kamala Khan’s Disney+ series. That was certainly the case in her first episode, which saw her attend AvengerCon alongside her best friend, Bruno Carrelli (Matt Lintz).
As a show centered on a Captain Marvel superfan, it’s not all that surprising that Kamala’s MCU adventure is finding room for so many references to established MCU characters. Its opening sequence, narrated by Kamala herself, explained her worship of Captain Marvel, discussed a podcast hosted by Scott Lang’s Ant-Man, and depicted heroes like Hawkeye, Captain America, Thor, and Valkyrie fighting Thanos’ minions during Avengers: Endgame’s final battle. Though there’s only so much the public can know about what went on during Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, Kamala clearly has her own opinions of the cataclysmic events that took place within the timeframe of the two MCU movies.

One scene in Ms. Marvel episode 1 revisited a particular moment in Infinity War’s Wakanda battle in a rather humorous manner. At AvengersCon, a Groot T-shirt was spotted. Curiously, it referred to him with the moniker, “Mr. Tree”. The T-shirt indicated that the public doesn’t actually know Groot’s name and also served as a reference to a line from Thor in the movie. When Thor, Rocket, and Groot arrived on Earth together, he introduced Groot to Captain America with the line, “This is a friend of mine, Tree”. It would seem that in the aftermath of the last
