September's Nintendo Direct ended with an exciting appearance from The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. While it didn't show much, it still added to a growing list of new abilities and equipment that Link looks like he'll be getting in the hotly anticipated title. Much of these new additions seem to center around the setting now including the skies above Hyrule. Some of them might also hint at what can be expected from the story, about which very little is known.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is Nintendo's sequel to the massively popular Switch launch title Breath of the Wild. Since its announcement in 2019, there has been a pretty slow drip of information for eager fans. So far, only a few trailers have been shown for the game — including one during September's Nintendo Direct. Tears of the Kingdom faces the epic task of living up to and preserving the legacy of its predecessor, while still adding new mechanics to keep it fresh. It could achieve this by giving Link some new tools.
Everything Announced at September 2022's Nintendo Direct
One of the most exciting new items Link is getting isn't technically new at all, but a change to an age-old weapon. In March 2022, Nintendo announced that Tears of the Kingdom's release was being delayed to spring 2023. It was sad news for many, but the announcement was at least paired with some new footage of the game. In one shot, Link can be seen holding the iconic Master Sword, except not as it's been shown before. Now, the sword looks to be broken, with much of the blade looking the same material from which Guardians and Blight Ganon bosses are made of in Breath of the Wild.
