FIFA 23’s World Cup mode release date has been confirmed, details revealed
EA has confirmed the release date and shared details on the World Cup mode coming to FIFA 23.
The free update will be released on all formats except for Switch on November 9, and will also come to FIFA Mobile on November 8.
Players will be able to choose any of the 32 qualified national teams in what EA Sports calls “an authentic recreation of the full FIFA World Cup 2022 from the opening match to the final game”.
Players can customise the tournament by changing the groups and swapping in teams who didn’t quality.
There will also be an Online Tournament mode in which players can choose a nation and attempt to win the World Cup by playing through the knockout stages against other players around the world.
An extra mode called FIFA World Cup Live will also be available between November 21 and December 18. This will be a “curated” mode which will constantly be updated during the group and knockout stages, allowing players to play with the authentic fixtures and squads, and play past games to try and change the outcome.
As previously reported, FIFA Ultimate Team will not have its own standalone FIFA World Cup mode this year, as it did for the 2014 and 2018 tournaments.
Instead, there will be new FUT campaigns between November 11 and December 23, featuring authentic team kits, stadium dressings, visuals, match balls and dedicated commentary.
A World Cup Path to Glory event in FUT will run from November 11-23 and will let players use “30 unique World Cup Heroes”.
As well as the World Cup content, EA also plans to release a FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023 mode in the build-up to next year’s tournament.
