If you're thinking of starting a Permadeath run in The Last of Us Part 1, you're best holding off for now. Players are reporting a bug where they die in cutscenes, an unavoidable end to the run. When the cutscene ends, you'll be back to square one, carrying your daughter into the panicked streets.
In a video shared by Reddit user TwistedPlob, Joel and his brother Tommy are driving down the street before getting into a scripted car crash, but when it finishes rolling, the camera pans to the bottom of the car and lingers for a moment. Then the loading screen kicks up and the scene starts again (thanks, GamesRadar). Luckily, TwistedPlob wasn't playing on permadeath.

Permadeath, for the unaware, is exactly what it sounds like - if you die, that's it. You don't get to load up a previous save or roll back to a checkpoint. Instead, the game ends and you're forced to start over from the very beginning. Understandably, it's the highest difficulty in The Last of Us, and it's returned for the remake to challenge a whole new generation of players. But maybe wait until a patch, yeah?
It's not just one player reporting this problem, either. One look at the comments and you'll find plenty of others in a similar boat: "I died in the hunter section where you get ambushed by the bus," JamesEdward34 wrote. "[Joel] was dragged to the broken glass and normally you can press square to fight off but [I] just insta died."
There are some other supposed death bugs that players have been noticing, like David dropping dead during the Winter chapter for no reason, so you might find others randomly kicking the bucket too.
