Sony's State of Play event held on June 2 showcased plenty of upcoming games as well an update on what gamers can expect on PS VR2. Highlights from the event include a major update to Horizon Forbidden West which adds a New Game+ mode, a PC port of Spider-Man Remastered that is scheduled to release in August, and a trailer for Final Fantasy 16, which is expected to hit store shelves in 2023. There was also plenty of content for Resident Evil fans, including confirmation of PS VR2 content and an announcement of Resident Evil 4 Remake.
Although the Resident Evil 4 Remake announcement is welcome, it comes as no surprise to anyone following the game, as rumors of its existence have been swirling around for a long time. Although Capcom has never confirmed the rumors, Resident Evil 4 Remake is perhaps one of gaming's worst kept secrets, and hints of its existence have been repeatedly appearing for over a year. Perhaps most surprisingly, the trailer reveals that the rumors were not too outlandish, and gamers always had a good idea of what to expect from Capcom.
Resident Evil 4 Remake Should Keep The Original's B-Movie Tone
Evidence of Resident Evil 4 Remake appears as early as 2020 when Capcom was the victim of a cyberattack. The hackers, blackmailing Capcom with its data, made demands that the company refused to adhere to, resulting in a wealth of information being released to the public. The leak revealed Capcom's plans for the future, and since its release, much of it has been proven to be true. For instance, Street Fighter 6, which appeared in the leak, was announced and is expected to be released in 2023. Resident Evil 4 Remake was also mentioned in the leak, with an expected Q4 2022 launch window.
