Warning: contains potential spoilers for Milestones in History
Milestones in History, a new anthology one-shot from Milestone Media and DC Comics, will not only spotlight Black luminaries in the arts and sciences, but look ahead to the future of the Dakotaverse as well. Since returning to stores last year, Milestone has doubled down on their mission of boosting visibility of underrepresented voices and characters, and Milestones in History, on sale in print and digital June 21st, will feature a diverse array of creators, using Milestone heroes to tell stories about prominent Black figures in a wide variety of fields.
Milestone Media’s mission is to boost the visibility of underrepresented voices in the comics industry. Beginning in 1993 as an imprint of DC Comics, Milestone’s characters have grown beyond the comics; Static headlined his own award-winning cartoon and Icon and Rocket have made appearances on Young Justice. The imprint folded during the implosion of the comics market in the mid-1990s and after years of attempts at a revival, Milestone returned last year, introducing a new generation to the likes of the Blood Syndicate and Xombi. Recently, the imprint launched the Milestone Initiative, dedicated to discovering and fostering diverse talent. This Initiative demonstrates Milestone's commitment to their original mission, and its new Milestones in History continues to demonstrate this dedication to diversity.
