The first episode of the Halo TV series will be shown on UK television tonight.
The show, which was released on Paramount + in the US earlier this year, will finally come to the UK, however, the release will be unconventional.
The first episode of the show is being shown on UK broadcaster Channel 5 tonight, June 22 at 10 PM. However, the show won’t be available on My5 after the broadcast, and none of the remaining episodes will be shown on TV.
Instead, the broadcast is being used to advertise Paramount +, the streaming service which has now launched in the UK.
Viewers can get a 7-day free trial of the streaming service, and a 30-day trial is expected to be added to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate as a perk soon.
The premiere episode of Halo set a viewership record on the streaming platform Paramount + when it debuted in the US.
“Bringing Halo to life as a streaming series has been one of the most rewarding efforts for Paramount+ to date and we could not be more thrilled at the massive fan response to the series’ debut,” said Tanya Giles, chief programming officer at Paramount+ in a statement about the new show.
Halo started development as a TV show at Xbox, where it stalled for years. It was memorably featured as part of the disastrous E3 2013 Xbox One reveal press conference.
The TV show was later resurrected at Paramount+ in a bid to create original content for the new streaming platform.
