The Galaxy S23 Could Get A Long Overdue Selfie Camera Upgrade
When Samsung announces the Galaxy S23 next year, it is expected to come with a camera upgrade that's been overdue for years. However, it is still about half a year before the release of the next-gen Galaxy S series smartphones, and while it should already be in development, the main focus is on the 2022 Galaxy Z series.
Samsung will announce the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Galaxy Z Fold 4 at its next Galaxy Unpacked event in August 2022. The new foldable smartphones will come with new chipsets, display upgrades, and improved hinge systems with a less-visible crease. In addition, while the Z Fold 4 will get upgraded cameras, the Z Flip 4 will have a bigger battery capacity and faster charging.

Since the Galaxy S10 was released in 2019, the standard models of the Galaxy S series have shipped with a 10MP front-facing camera. The same also applies to the Plus models in the series, including the 2022 Galaxy S22 Plus. However, a new report has revealed that Samsung will finally upgrade the camera after three years. This new sensor should appear on the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Plus, expected to launch in 2023. Citing an unnamed source, GalaxyClub, reports that Samsung is considering a new camera with a 12MP resolution.
While the jump to a 12MP sensor is not much of an upgrade compared to the Ultra models, which have a 40MP sensor, it should bring new features and improvements. However, it wasn't revealed if the camera will be placed under the display like the Galaxy Z Fold 3 or if it will remain visible, residing in a punch hole in the center of the display.
