In the world of video games, visual acuity is an important, though not always vital, aspect in development, especially when it comes to AAA releases. With current gen consoles like Xbox Series and PS5 aiming for 4K graphics at 60 fps, the current industry is in an advanced state in which it's possible to deliver the most realistic experience in terms of how games look. Recently, Cyberpunk 2077 was ported to PS5 and Xbox Series X, with hope of it receiving 4K visuals in the process. However, it looks as though this latest iteration of CD Projekt Red's title falls short of that.
According to a recent video from Digital Foundry, the launch of Cyberpunk 2077 on the latest generation of consoles means there's an opportunity for the developer to «tap into the capabilities» of the systems that are currently out. However, a test done yields a bit of bad news, in that the console ports of the game are able to render natively at 1440p, and not beyond. In other words, it looks as though players who are interested in the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X versions may be disappointed to find that it doesn't run at 4K resolution.

PS5 and Xbox Series X ports of Cyberpunk 2077 have been on the horizon for some time, and with the studio working diligently to undo the mess that was the game's initial launch in December 2020, it's been a long time coming. But those who were hoping for 4K visuals may be put off by what Digital Foundry has said, even though it sounds like the rest of the graphical improvements have been implemented, with interior directional lighting having been given a notable upgrade, and while sometimes it's subtle, it does create a «richer, deeper image.»
