After revealing the game and the ability to play as April O’Neal, DotEmu has confirmed yet another character and even more platforms for its upcoming beat-em-up . Splinter, the iconic sensei from the series, will be a playable character in the game, which is now coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One alongside the previously announced PC and Nintendo Switch.
DotEmu released a new gameplay trailer showing the gifted rat fighting alongside the Turtles and April, using an array of different slashing attacks to fell his foes. DotEmu CEO and Executive Producer Cyrille Imbert and Tribute Games Game Director Jonathan Lavigne appeared on an extended gameplay walkthrough on PlayStation’s YouTube channel to speak more about him. Lavigne said the team wanted to make a character that “looks like he is a master of martial arts.” He said Splinter is strong because of his techniques and not necessarily because of his speed, which further demonstrates his mastery. He also talked about watching the animated series and playing the iconic arcade game for inspiration.
The episode of PlayStation Underground is likely a byproduct of it launching on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game was not confirmed for those platforms until now. It still doesn’t have a release date, as Imbert still said it was coming “later this year.”
The beat-em-up recalls not only the 1989 arcade game, but also 2010’s , which tracks because Tribute Games has team members that worked on that title. DotEmu is also responsible for a number of recent retro-inspired games like and .
