Gearbox has announced that a new Tales From The Borderlands game is currently in development and is set to be released before the end of the year. Unlike the first game, the sequel is being developed by Gearbox and has no input from the original game's developer Telltale Games. It will also apparently focus on a brand new set of characters, but will likely feature iconic Borderlands characters like the first game did.
Gearbox announced the news via its official Borderlands Twitter account earlier today, revealing that the game will launch before the end of 2022 and that we can expect to hear more information about the game this summer. Gearbox didn't provide an actual release date, but seeing as though we're getting more info this summer, it's possible Gearbox and 2K will be aiming for a holiday launch.

It'll be interesting to see just what a Tales From The Broderlands game will look like without Telltale Games on board. The original game had a very similar structure to Telltale's other properties like The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us, yet it's unclear whether Gearbox is sticking with this familiar structure. We'll likely learn more about the game this summer, probably during one of the big showcases like Summer Games Fest or a different first-party showcase.
In other Borderlands-related news, Gearbox announced that it had recently acquired its co-developer studio Lost Boys for an undisclosed fee. Lost Boys will apparently retain pretty much all of its staff and managment as Gearbox looks to bolster its development options.
