One of the stars of Supergirl reveals that an LGBTQ storyline between Kara Zor-El and the female Brainiac 5 was pitched. The Arrowverse has come a long way since its inception in 2012, when Arrow premiered on The CW as a grittier take on the Green Arrow mythology. The series allowed for an entire universe of DC TV shows to come to life, with the franchise still living on to this day. While it didn't start on The CW, Supergirl became an integral part of the Arrowverse. Initially created as a series for CBS, The CW ended up saving Supergirl season 2 when the former chose not to renew it for another year.
Supergirl, which ran for a total of 6 seasons and 126 episodes, centered around Kara as she became her own hero and the protector of National City. Throughout the show's run, Supergirl became one of the Arrowverse dramas to open up the franchise's representation of LGBTQ+ characters. Similar to DC shows like Legends of Tomorrow and Batwoman, it was heavily inclusive, with one of the core queer romances between Alex Danvers and Kelly Olsen. However, it appears there was one LGBTQ+ arc that almost happened on-screen, and included the Girl of Steel herself.

This past weekend, several Supergirl cast members attended the UK convention The Ultimates, where they took part in panels that included Q&A sessions with fans. One of the attending actors was Jesse Rath, who portrayed Querl Dox, a.k.a. Brainiac 5, in Supergirl season 3-6. At one point during the panel (via @DerpSwan) Rath reveals that he had actually pitched an LGBTQ+ arc between Melissa Benoist's Supergirl and the female Brainiac 5, played by his real-life sister Meaghan Rath.
