Carl's first attempt at living a sober life was shown on Summer House season 5. However, following the death of his brother, Carl hit a stump that took him on a short downward spiral. By the time Carl returned to film Summer House season 6, he was six months sober and focused on not relapsing. Despite his housemates partying hard every weekend, Carl avoided consuming any alcohol while still having fun. Considering Carl's past wild boy antics prior to his sobriety, some viewers think that him being in the house could tempt him to pick up a drink.
