Though being a perfect viable endgame option in Season 1, the Ball Lightning Sorcerer immediately took off with the start of Season 2 — for two reasons. Reason 1 behind the build's incredible power level lies within a simple tooltip change included in Patch 1.2.0.

Despite the fact that only the tooltip showed wrong damage numbers based on the skill's Attack Speed scaling, it seems like the skill's damage calculation itself was adjusted in the same way, resulting in a hefty damage increase thanks to much better Attack Speed scaling. On top of this under-the-hood change, the build's main damage aspect,, was massively buffed with Patch 1.1.1 back in Season 1.
As a result, Ball Lightning Sorc stormed to the top of the tier lists, quickly becoming the flavor of the season build — and rightfully so! The incredible damage potential paired with the visceral «battlemage» type and a more than solid build foundation thanks to numerous lightning-related Paragon improvements makes Ball Lightning one of the most fun and powerful skills to use in Diablo 4 Season 2.
