Steven Moffat may be best known for his work on the sci-fi sensation Doctor Who, but he's always had a romantic streak in him — and that romance often comes with comedy bordering on the absurd. The Time Traveler's Wife, premiering May 15 on HBO, will be his chance to merge all of those genres together. Based on the 2003 novel of the same name by Audrey Niffenegger, this particular sci-fi romance has already received a widely-discussed film adaptation starring Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams. But now it will be dissected even further in a television series, with a first season spanning 6 episodes.
The highly acclaimed David Nutter (known for series as different as Game of Thronesand Shameless) joins Moffat on the creative team, directing all six episodes of The Time Traveler's Wife. The seriesstars Rose Leslie (The Good Fight) and Theo James (Sanditon) as time-crossed lovers Clare Abshire and Henry DeTamble. When Care meets the love of her life at 6 years old, she must spend a majority of the next few decades waiting for him to return — and to do so at the right age. What makes this so impossible is that Henry suffers from an unknown disorder that throws him through time with no explanation.

Moffat and Nutter spoke with Screen Rant and several other outlets during a recent press event about turning the ordinary experience of falling in love into an extraordinary event, and about treating the touchy subject of an adult interacting with a child who later falls in love with them as delicately as possible.
