True Detective season 4 is gaining stream as Jodie Foster has signed on to lead the cast of the anthology crime drama. Originally created by Nic Pizzolatto, the HBO series centers on a variety of police officers as they find themselves investigating crimes ranging from an occult serial killer to the murder of a corrupt politician. True Detective season 1 was led by Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson while season 2 was led by Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams and Vince Vaughn and season 3 by Mahershala Ali, Carmen Ejogo and Stephen Dorff.
Though season 2 received generally divided reviews from critics and audiences alike, True Detective has received largely favorable reviews for the performances of its cast, stylish cinematography and direction and the deep character work and writing. Following the conclusion of the delayed season 3, HBO officially renewed True Detective for season 4 in March with Issa López attached to write the pilot and executive produce the new season alongside Barry Jenkins. López is now officially set to direct the pilot, reportedly entitled True Detective: Night Country, and a major new wrinkle has come from its development.

A few months after development on the show was confirmed, Variety has brought word that Jodie Foster has joined the cast of True Detective season 4. Foster will star in the new season as Detective Liz Danvers, an Alaskan police detective who must work with her partner Evangeline Navarro to investigate the bizarre disappearance of six men operating an arctic research station.
