The long-awaited Minions: The Rise of Gru finally arrives in theaters on July 1, and the latest installment in the Despicable Me franchise takes audiences on an adventure to Gru's past. Steve Carell (The Office, The Morning Show) returns to voice everyone's favorite villain protagonist, Felonious Gru, as a youngster. The animated film is filled to the brim with stars, including Taraji P. Henson, Michelle Yeoh, Julie Andrews, Alan Arkin, and Danny Trejo.
Minions: The Rise of Gru also sees the return of director Kyle Balda, 2015's Minions and 2017's Despicable Me 3. After more than its fair share of pandemic-related delays, the fifth film in the franchise will unveil the origin story of Gru as he attempts to join the villainous supergroup known as the Vicious 6 — nevermind that they don't always have six members. Whether the trusty minions help or hinder him in this process, it's certain that fans will have a blast watching them try their mischievous best.
