The fourth issue of DC Comics' Earth-Prime mini-series set in the Arrowverse teased an answer to one of the biggest mysteries regarding the Justice Society of America in Stargirl — namely how the world's first superhero team, founded in World War II, survived well into the 21st century.
The story of Stargirl is built around the themes of legacy and history, yet the show's mythology has never explained how these elder heroes remained spry and active until a fatal battle with their archenemies in the Injustice Society of America on Christmas Eve 2010. Earth-Prime: Stargirl #4 provides an answer, seemingly taken from the original Stargirl comics.

The story of Earth-Prime: Stargirl #4, written by James Robinson and Paula Sevenbergen with art by Jerry Ordway and John Kalisz, is set sometime after the end of Stargirl season 2, with Courtney Whitmore, Pat Dugan and the rest of the Whitmore-Dugan family taking a well-deserved vacation, camping in various national parks. Their relaxation is interrupted by the sudden appearance of the Needle, a supervillain from Pat's past. Thankfully, the Needle is not looking for revenge but catharsis, thanking Pat for having brought him to justice and setting him on the road to building a better life for himself once he'd paid his debt to society. This unexpected twist was typical of Robinson's writing on the highly underrated Starman comic, which set the stage for Stargirl.
