While there are a thousand planets in across approximately 100 star systems, most will opt to simply fast travel between them to get to the next objective or the next major story moment, but there are some who spend many hours just flying their custom starships across the vastness of space. While the consensus when launched was that there wasn't much to do out in space, and that it took an exceptionally long time to get anywhere manually, this approach has resulted in some pretty interesting discoveries.
A clip from WisdomOfTheStar on the r/Starfield subredditshows their ship being pulled into the orbit of a seemingly small star, spinning them around it without any aid from the player. According to WisdomOfTheStar, no mods were involved in this seemingly new feature, barring the modded ship they're piloting, which is a Nubian Royal Starship from.
Responding to another Redditor, Miku_Sagiso's theory that they'd clipped into and were trapped inside an invisible sphere — arguing that if there were gravity involved the player would have been fired away from the star at some point like a slingshot — WisdomOfTheStar stated that they weren't trapped in the orbit, as they could accelerate and fly away, suggesting that this could be a fun feature implemented by Bethesda, rather than a potentially game-breaking bug, even if the physics aren't accurate.
There are a lot of resources to harvest in Starfield, but some are more valuable than others in building outposts and useful weapon mods.
As had been previously discovered by Australian video game writer, streamer, and former journalist Alanah Pearce, most of 's planets are hollow and have no gravity when just flying across the galaxy. After 7 hours of flying between planets without using any fast travel, Pearce found herself finally approaching the dwarf planet Pluto and clipping straight through it.
It's clear that despite having the option to manually fly across the galaxy, that Bethesda knew most people would use the
