It's possible the Jedi voices in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker actually fought Sith spirits on the planet Exegol. The final battle between Rey and Emperor Palpatine was one of the most deeply symbolic moments in the entire franchise. On the one hand stood Palpatine, claiming to be the culmination of the Sith, the very embodiment of their power. On the other stood Rey, spurred on by the voices of Jedi past, standing as the champion of the light side of the Force.
Rey had been trying to hear the voices of the Jedi for months. Although the Force Ghosts had manifested to her teacher Leia Organa, they had never appeared to her, and she'd felt bereft of their counsel. But there they were, at the moment of Rey's greatest need; some voices she knew and many she did not, encouraging her to stand against the darkness and restore the balance of the Force. They gave her the strength she needed to stand against her grandfather, and in so doing secure the ultimate victory of the light.

And yet, for all that's the case, one intriguing Star Wars theory suggests those Jedi voices may have been a lot more active than anybody previously thought. Lucasfilm recently published an excerpt from an upcoming Star Wars novel, Adam Christopher's Shadow of the Sith, and it raises the possibility that an invisible battle was being fought on Exegol — between the ancient Jedi and the Sith. If true, this would give Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker an even more cosmic scale and scope.
