Of all the Jedi in the Star Wars galaxy, Luke Skywalker found a way to make C-3PO appear to be a Force user like him. A story adapted within The Legends of Luke Skywalker: The Manga places Luke in the middle of a droid rescue mission. It also allows him to have one of the most surprising disguises in the galaxy.
The Legends of Luke Skywalker: The Manga is a manga adaptation of the novel of the same name, written by Ken Liu. It combines the talents of numerous mangaka to adapt some of the short story legends that were included in the canon collection of Star Wars myths. While the stories are legends shared amongst a group of kids, they certainly provide an interesting look at how the story of Luke would grow and grow, giving him new adventures — whether he actually did them or not.

One particular story, «I, Droid» is adapted by Haruichi — the creator of the Japanese webtoon, Leia Organa: Ordeal of the Princess. In her English manga debut, she details Luke Skywalker's adventure at a place known as The Gem. It employs droid labor to mine rare gemstones. Among the many droids captured and put to work here is fan-favorite, R2-D2, in need of rescue. To rescue his companion, Luke finds himself needing to go undercover — as a protocol droid.
While the story mentions that the protocol droid's plates are «loose and a bit misshapen,» it isn't until later that it is fully revealed that this is in fact Luke, and not his other droid companion. Luke also managed to prevent himself from having a restraining bolt placed on him, having claimed that «his circuits are too delicate and promised to behave.
