Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is an action-adventure game for Nintendo Switch developed by Krome Studios and published by Aspyr. Playing as a Sith apprentice offers bursts of lightsaber-swinging fun, but the Switch port of The Force Unleashed is a little too short and ugly to stay entertaining for long.
The Force Unleashed is set between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. Darth Vader takes on a secret apprentice, known as Starkiller, as part of a plot to overthrow Emperor Palpatine. Starkiller is trained in the ways of the Sith and sent on secret missions around the galaxy, cutting his way through both Stormtroopers and those who oppose the Empire. During his missions, Starkiller learns of a plan to create a resistance movement against the Empire and must choose a side in the upcoming conflict.

Starkiller wields a lightsaber throughout The Force Unleashed and the only ranged weapons available to the player are Force powers, such as grabbing an enemy, throwing the lightsaber like a boomerang, or unleashing Force Lightning on the enemy. The lightsaber can be used to block most blaster shots, but it cannot protect against heavier weapons or AoE weapons, such as flamethrowers. The bulk of the levels are linear arrangements of corridors and rooms, where the player rushes to the end while killing foes, with a few areas forcing Starkiller to defeat a certain number of foes or a miniboss, before being able to proceed.
The Switch version of The Force Unleashed is based on the Nintendo Wii version of the game, which means that it features motion controls. Like with the recent The House of the Dead: Remake, the Joy-Cons struggle to match the functions of the
