While it is no secret that, aside from Jar-Jar Binks, C-3PO is perhaps the most hated character within the Star Wars universe as he constantly complains and treats the much more useful R2-D2 terribly. But despite his shortcomings, he is still a member of the original team and a huge asset to their success against the Empire. However, one of C-3PO’s fellow original trilogy heroes apparently sees no worth behind C-3PO’s surface-level annoyance and legitimately hates him to the point where nothing would make him happier than to ferociously tear the Protocol Droid apart.
C-3PO made his debut in the film Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope, and just within the first few moments of his appearance, his importance to the story was made abundantly clear. C-3PO was a Protocol Droid within the Rebel Alliance who was partnered up with his long-time friend and fellow droid R2-D2 for a mission in delivering a vital message to Obi-Wan Kenobi on behalf of Princess Leia. C-3PO’s role in this mission was incredibly important as he was programmed with intimate knowledge of the landscape, culture, and language of every planet in the galaxy, making R2-D2’s message delivery as smooth as possible. Once the message was delivered and the events of the original trilogy officially kicked off, C-3PO continued to prove his worth, which made up for the fact that he was pretty annoying throughout–at least, for most of the crew.
