Ukrainian development studio GSC Game World has suspended its work on S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl following Russia's invasion of the county. As the sequel to one of the best-loved cult classics in gaming history, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is very highly anticipated and has been in different stages of development for the better part of a decade.
When Russia launched its military invasion of Ukraine on February 24, the Ukrainian game development community responded with condemnation, defiance, and national unity. GSC Game World is one of the more prominent studios in Ukraine and was one of the first to release its statement on the situation. The developer emphasized its country's freedom and independence, saying that Ukraine remains strong and prepared in the face of an uncertain future. It also addressed its fellow game industry professionals and fans, requesting donations for the armed forces of Ukraine via a direct aid account number. Many people have reached out to GSC Game World to ask if its employees themselves are okay, and now the studio has given an answer.

In a video posted to its official YouTube channel, GSC Game World announced that it would be pausing the development of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 due to the ongoing war and its effects on all Ukrainians. According to the video, the studio was planning to release some behind-the-scenes footage of its motion capture for the game prior to the Russian attacks last week. That footage is now cut with harrowing scenes of real-world destruction caused by Russian strikes and bombardments across Ukraine.
