Square Enix says Final Fantasy 35th anniversary news is coming soon
Square Enix has said it’s planning to make announcements about plans for Final Fantasy 35th anniversary soon.
The publisher touched on its plans for the series during an earnings call on Friday, which was summarised on Twitter by Japan-based analyst and investment adviser David Gibson.
Square Enix reportedly said it intends to release several new games this year but that its plans are centred around its most high-profile franchise.
It said to expect news regarding plans for Final Fantasy’s 35th anniversary either this month or next.
It also noted that it has high expectations for Final Fantasy 16, which is set to be shown again soon via a new trailer.
The original Final Fantasy was released on the Famicom in Japan on December 18, 1987, meaning the series will mark its 35th birthday at the end of this year.
Square Enix recently launched a Final Fantasy 35th anniversary site, which is teasing that news of future games is on the way.

“In this 35th anniversary year, we will be bringing you many exciting new ways to enjoy the worlds of Final Fantasy”, the site says.
Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 2 is also likely to be announced soon, with producer Yoshinori Kitase confirming during a live stream in January that he wants to reveal it during the series’ 35th anniversary year.
Final Fantasy XIV was the star performer during Square Enix’s fiscal year ended March 31, 2022, the company announced on Friday.
Boosted by launch of the game’s Endwalker expansion in December, sales of the MMO helped to offset a decline in the company’s ‘HD Games’ segment, where titles like Outriders and Guardians of the Galaxy failed to meet expectations.
