Square Enix’s Forspoken has been delayed again and will now be released in 2023.
The PS5 and PC game was originally scheduled to arrive in May 2022, but in March its release was pushed to October.
Its release date has now been delayed by a further three and a half months to January 24, 2023.
“As a result of ongoing discussions with key partners, we have made the strategic decision to move the launch date of Forspoken to January 24, 2023,” Square Enix and in-house development studio Luminous Productions said in a statement. “All game elements are now complete, and development is in its final polishing phase.
“We would like to thank you for your continued support and patience on this journey. Your excitement for the game inspires us every day and we cannot wait to share more about Forspoken with you later this summer!”

Announced in June 2020, Forspoken is the debut game from Luminous Productions.
Billed as “a narrative-driven adventure set in a beautiful yet cruel world,” it sees players take on the role of Frey Holland, “an ordinary young woman who must harness her magical abilities to survive in the fantastical yet dangerous land of Athia”.
Square Enix has said it’s aiming to deliver “the highest quality visuals ever seen in an open world game” with Forspoken, which will be a PlayStation console exclusive for two years.
