Forspoken has been delayed again. Originally set to release last spring, Luminous delayed the game to October for additional polish (and perhaps taking a cue from Cyberpunk 2077’s disastrous launch). Now it seems that Forspoken won’t arrive until 2023 after “discussions” with its strategic partners.
"As a result of ongoing discussions with key partners, we have made the strategic decision to move the launch date of Forspoken to January 24, 2023," wrote Luminous in today’s statement. "All game elements are now complete, and development is in its final polishing phase."

Luminous promised to share more of Forspoken "later this summer."
One of those "key partners" is likely publisher Square Enix. A recent rumor shared on the Xbox Era Podcast indicated that Square Enix might be the ones pushing to delay Forspoken to make room for Final Fantasy 16, which producer Naoki Yoshida said was “pretty much complete.”
"There's a possibility that Square might delay Forspoken again", said host Shpeshal Nick. "But it's kind of conditional. And apparently, this condition is whether they think they can get Final Fantasy 16 out this year."
Given Forspoken has confirmed its delay, we might soon receive a release date for Final Fantasy 16.
First revealed as the Project Athia tech demo, Forspoken was officially announced as an actual game early last year. Forspoken's story centers on New York teen Frey Holland, who gets transported to the land of Athia where she develops magical powers. Those powers play a central role in Forspoken's gameplay, with players earning experience to level up and learn more magical abilities.
