Spotify is acquiring daily music game Heardle in an attempt to entice more people onto the music streaming platform while also doubling as a new music discovery tool.
"We see Heardle as more than a trivia game," the official Spotify announcement(Opens in a new window) said. "It's also a tool for musical discovery." Players may rediscover old tracks, find favorite new artists, or finally put a title to that tune you've been humming.
Aside from an updated title font, little about the free-to-play puzzle game will change following its move to Spotify, where folks can now listen to the full song at the end of each game. Existing players can visit heardle.app to transfer their stats; Spotify on Tuesday acknowledged an issue moving some users' data, adding that it's "actively working" on a fix.
The Name That Tune-style puzzle takes the popular Wordle game (which was acquired by The New York Times in February) and applies it to audio. Players get six chances to guess the song title, starting with a one-second snippet of the first bars. Skipped or incorrect attempts unlock more of the intro, with the goal is to answer in as few tries as possible.

"Heardle has proven to be a really fun way to connect millions of fans with songs they know and love and with new songs … and it aligns with our plans to deepen interactivity across the Spotify ecosystem."
