OverBorder Studio's project Thymesia is teasing its audience with a new gameplay video, highlighting some of the upcoming title's mechanics. It will be quite a busy year for Souls-like enthusiasts, with several new games fighting for the top spot in 2022.
Thymesiais an action-role-playing game first announced in 2021, and set to release this year. Clearly inspired by mainstream titles such as Dark Souls and Bloodborne, Thymesia aims to distinguish itself enough in what is becoming a very crowded scene, featuring aesthetics and themes influenced by popular depictions of the Medieval Black Plague, a pandemic which devastated 14th century Europe.

A new post on the developers' Twitter page featured a short gameplay video, showing the player character fighting two low-level enemies at once; highlighted is the locking feature, enabling the targeting of attacks upon the desired foe with a single press of a button. The characteristic fast-paced combat mechanics are evident, as is one of the peculiar mechanics of the Thymesia, the absence of a stamina bar.
With the player incarnating Corvus, an amnesiac man fighting his way through dungeons and streets filled with the results of an alchemical plague, the premise does not appear, at first, to distance itself much from typical tropes of the genre. However, several things do stand out, such as the introduction of so-called plague weapons, as well as the player's ability to transform into a raven form. Moreover, standard weaponry, plague weapons, and raven form can be mixed and employed together.
