During this time, games like Super Mario 64 and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time were released, paving the way for the future of 3D gaming. However, these were not the only titles that took advantage of the 3rd dimension during the era. A number of other developers tried to replicate the magic found in these Nintendo games with varying degrees of success. Among these lesser-known titles was Glover, a 3D platformer originally released on the Nintendo 64.
First released in 1998, Glover is a 3D platformer. As the name suggests, players take control of an anthropomorphic glove as they are tasked with navigating through a variety of intriguing levels in a 3D space. Upon release, the game received praise from gamers for its unique gameplay. For example, the titular glove not only could run around, but it could move a morphing ball to solve puzzles. Recently, it was revealed that players were about to receive another chance to revisit this odd platformer, except this time on newer hardware.
Long Lost Canceled N64 Game Prototype Released
In a tweet from March 7, Piko Interactive LLC announced that Glover was making a comeback. According to the developer, the retro 3D platformer was expected to come to PC via the Steam store on April 20, 2022. Along with this announcement, several screenshots were shown on the official Steam page for Glover, revealing that the game appeared to be running at a higher resolution. With this PC release, the developer noted that the title was being “completely redone” based on the source code from the N64 version.
