In the wake of Sony’s buyout of Bungie, it plans to expand the Destiny universe beyond just games is stepping up a gear.
There was already talk of Bungie exploring more of its Destiny universe through other forms of media (i.e. movies) last year and it sounds like the acquisition by Sony is only going to accelerate those plans.
When asked about what benefits Bungie would see by being acquired by Sony, chief financial officer Hiroki Totoki mentioned the possibility of turning one of the studio’s games into a movie.
‘Bungie want to nurture the IP they have in a multi-dimensional manner, and that’s their hope,’ said Totoki in a recent earnings call. ‘And for that, we believe we can help that… Bungie can leverage our platform so that their IP can flourish and grow big.’

While it’s not explicitly named, it’s safe to assume that if any Bungie property is going to get a movie or TV show first, it will be Destiny, considering its popularity and relevance (sorry Oni fans).
Such plans may have already kicked off or, at the very least, Bungie is preparing for them. As spotted by the Destiny Bulletin Twitter account, Bungie has hired Derick Tsai as head of development on Destiny Universe Transmedia.
