With Sonic the Hedgehog 2 soon to be released by Paramount Pictures, new promotional materials for the film continue to be released to fans worldwide. The most recent poster to be revealed not only showcases some of the latest title’s main characters, but is also heavily inspired by one of the most popular Sega video games of all time.
The first Sonic the Hedgehog movie, which features Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic, saw the main character stranded on Earth from a young age and teaming up with local Green Hills sheriff Tom Wachowski (James Marden) to defeat the evil Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey). The original movie has become the all-time highest-grossing film adaption of a video game in North America and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 has since been highly anticipated — particularly after a new Sonic 2 TV spot came to our screens last month.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 May be Closer to Sonic 3 and Knuckles
The latest movie poster shown by Paramount Pictures features the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 character and cast members Sonic, Tails and Dr. Robotnik in a scene reminiscent of the North American and European box art for the Sonic the Hedgehog 2video game on the Sega Genesis / Mega Drive. The video game was famously released on November 24, 1992, AKA “Sonic 2sday” and was the first title to be launched worldwide on the same day, with the game’s cover featuring Sonic and Tails at the front and an oversized Dr. Robotnik grasping at a large, red number two towards the back of the shot.
Since Idris Elba was cast as Knuckles in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, many fans have been looking forward to seeing the addition of further characters from the franchise and those examining the poster closely will have also spotted Knuckle’s reflection in the number two. The
