One player of Sonic Frontiers' demo has found a mechanic that directly references the Sonic the Hedgehog films. With the recent return to physical in-person convention events across the globe, publishers have the opportunity to give player a chance to play any of its upcoming games. This includes playable demos of Sonic Frontiers at industry events, including GamesCom, Tokyo Game Show, and most recently EGX London. These demos have given the game a much more positive reputation, with many fans who managed to get a chance to play praising the new open-zone gameplay.
With this demo of Sonic Frontiers, several clips of gameplay have leaked onto the Internet, with some even showing some new areas or cutscenes that haven't been featured in trailers yet. This includes footage of the cyberspace levels and even parts of Ares Island, the second area in the game. These public demos have given fans the chance to discover elements of the game that haven't been formally unveiled, including a reference to the Sonic movies.

In a gameplay clip posted by Twitter user @Memey_PW, it shows them using the Cyloop, whereupon drawing a perfect circle, it rewards them with a set of rings. Moreover, the user has been implied to be collecting several rings for an unspecified amount of time, indicated by the top left corner that shows that they've capped out at 400 rings. Once the ring total has hit 400, a cutscene plays, that covers him in blue lightning, which also turns his eyes blue, much like when Sonic activates his electric powers in the Sonic movies.
