Sonic Frontiers is now less than a month away from launch, and despite early reactions to its first details and trailers, hype for the game has grown quite a bit. That hype might well get another boost this week as a trailer detailing how exactly combat will work in Frontiers appears to have leaked slightly ahead of time.
The new trailer, which includes more than three minutes of mostly new information, has been shared on YouTube. Most notable is the reveal that for the first time ever, Sonic will have a skill tree. To unlock new skills, Sonic will need to collect skill pieces throughout his Frontiers journey. They'll be dropped by fallen enemies and can also be collected by breaking items. It's made clear that as you progress through the game, the skills you start with won't be enough to defeat certain enemies later on.

Players will also be tasked with collecting red seeds of power and blue seeds of defense to boost Sonic's stats. Again, it sounds like if you don't do this, progressing through the game and defeating increasingly tougher enemies will be challenging, if not impossible. It has already been revealed that some bosses can't be damaged unless you're Super Sonic, and it appears the same applies to your garden variety baddies if you aren't leveling up and expanding Sonic's skill tree.
As for what exactly those moves and abilities will be, while some will be familiar, like the hedgehog's homing attack, others detailed in the leaked trailer are brand new to the Sonic series. Sonic Boom will allow you to deal massive damage to opponents, but from a distance, while Wild Rush will see Sonic get up close and personal while zig-zagging through
