A Sonic Frontiers prequel comic has been announced. The blue blur's history in comics speaks for itself as the canceled Sonic the Hedgehog Archie comics still hold the title as the longest running video game comics in history. Recent game releases have usually come with tie-in comics that either showcase small in-game story events, or act as supplementary material that aims to explain how the plot of the newest adventure for Sonic and his friends began.
For Sonic Frontiers, its own comic is the latter. It's known as "Sonic Frontiers: Prologue: Convergence." The cover shows Sonic, Tails, and Amy riding on the Tornado as Dr. Eggman looms behind them as he seems to be fading into pixels. This directly references what's been revealed of the game's story so far, which begins with Sonic and company heading out to find the Chaos Emeralds, only to get sucked into a wormhole. Sonic wakes up on the island alone with many questions, and no sign of Tails or Amy.

While the summary may be good enough for some players, others may want to see the events that lead up to Sonic Frontiers in more detail, and that's where the prologue comic comes in. According to the announcement post, the comic will come in two parts, with the first being released on social media this Tuesday.
However, some fans were confused by this announcement, as back in June, as Sonic Central presentation revealed a prequel animation that has yet to come out. It stars Knuckles the Echidna, and most likely explains how he got involved with the story as he's found on the Starfall Islands later in the game. The Sonic social media channels were quick to clarify that players are getting both a prequel comic and animation short.
