Like its predecessors, Sniper Elite 5 is shaping up to be another solid entry into a franchise that isn't afraid to experiment. Screen Rant recently had the opportunity to attend a hands-on preview of one of the game's early levels and everything it offers. The freedom of choice and wealth of opportunities offered to the player provides moments of triumph, cunning, and anxiety which culminate in an immensely replayable experience.
Prior to the hands-on preview, developer Rebellion provided an overview of Sniper Elite 5's new features. First is the campaign, which takes place in France, 1944 and sees protagonist Karl Fairburne teaming up with the French Resistance to prevent Operation Kraken, the Axis' newest secret project. In order to bring the series to France, Rebellion travelled to many of the country's key battlegrounds to not only recreate various locations but to also use the unique geography to inspire each mission and the various scenarios that encompass them.

Rebellion also added a variety of ways to approach each mission, including co-op and loadout customization. When playing co-op, players can share ammo and items with one another, give orders, and provide healing and other support when needed. Sniper Elite 5 also adds increased customization, allowing players to create a loadout prior to starting a mission and by supplying multiple workbenches around each map that allows for in-game changes. Loadout and weapon customization can be as simple as switching armor-piercing ammo to non-lethal or as complex as changing the scope, rifle, stock, and more — all of which affect the physics of each weapon and how effective they are.
