Sister Wives season 16 showed numerous cracks in the Brown family dynamic, including the hiring of Kody and Robyn Brown's nanny. Fans immediately started to question what the family helper actually did for the fourth wife, who didn't have a job. As the worldwide pandemic and fear struck, Kody made the difficult decision to cut his family off from the world. Those wives who would listen were encouraged to self-isolate and not allow their children to socialize. Robyn decided to follow her husband's rules, which resulted in her being able to spend the whole two years with Kody by her side. Kody's three other wives, Christine, Janelle, and Meri, were not pleased with the strict rules and were often punished for not listening to the patriarch. Due to Robyn's ability to follow rules without question, she was eventually rewarded with an at-home helper to raise her children.

Robyn is often thought of as Kody's favorite wife, but fans couldn't help but wonder why Robyn would need an au pair? Sister Wives viewers immediately started to question if the new helper was there to help with the children or if she was there to be courted by Kody. Robyn's children range from the age of 21,18, 16, 10, and 5, with some noting that the older children are more than capable of lending a helping hand. To add insult to injury, the other three wives never were offered a nanny.
