A new update for The Sims 4's Neighborhood Stories feature aims to improve how the world progresses around players, even for households they aren't playing. Alongside other recent free gameplay elements added to The Sims, Neighborhood Stories aims to enhance the depth of players' in-game storytelling. While the series has released a large amount of paid DLC since its release in 2014, the developers have recently been providing several free additions to the popular simulation game as well.
The freedom to create unique stories is a big part of gameplay for many Sims 4 players, who enjoy the massive freedom they're given to craft their own narratives. However, until recently that control only extended to a player's own household — the characters in the world around them would never experience any life changes like having a baby or switching careers that would contribute to their character development. The Sims Neighborhood Stories update was first introduced last fall and aimed to make neighborhoods feel more alive. The update added the ability for players to suggest NPCs make changes in their lives, as well as the possibility NPCs will call player characters and ask them for advice about big life choices. However, all of this was still a player having direct influence over NPCs, instead of these events happening naturally.
