It seems there may be at least two new Silent Hill games in development and one of them is a remake of the series’ most famous entry.
For years there have been rumours of a new Silent Hill game, but until last week there was never any evidence for it. As soon as Konami issued a cease and desist on images purporting to be from a new mainline entry though, it was made clear that the survival horror franchise really is making a comeback.
Before last week, many of the rumours had suggested a remake and the involvement of Sony but that wasn’t part of the new reveal, which seems to be an original game with a new character. However, that may be because a remake of Silent Hill 2 is an entirely different project.
There have also been previous suggestions that there are multiple Silent Hill games in development and that’s exactly what leaker Nate The Hate is suggesting, with one of them being a remake that is a timed PlayStation exclusive.
Nate The Hate has proven accurate with Nintendo stories in the past – which is no mean feat – but admits his Silent Hill information is ‘not confirmed’ and unlike the previous leak there are no images or proof.
Despite this, he claims that the game is being developed by Polish studio Bloober Team, with even the studio itself hinting at its involvement in the past.
If it seems surprising that they weren’t asked to start with the first game, it has been reimagined several times in the past and while 2001’s Silent Hill is generally considered the best in the series it’s very similar to the original in terms of gameplay, except with a superior story and the removal of the more obscure puzzle elements.
