The "redemption" referred to in the title of The Shawshank Redemption may actually belong to Red, not Andy. Although the plot seems to suggest that it is Tim Robbins Andy Dufresne who receives greater absolution as a result of his daring escape, a more in-depth analysis suggests that this may only superficially be the case. In actual fact, it is his confidante and close friend Red who becomes the true emotional and redemptive center of the story.
